"The idea of this book is not to bring together highlights, masterpieces which are canonised by art history, Egyptology or classical archaeology. Neither is it a guide nor a complete history of the collection. It is a personal selections of works of art in Glylptoteket, a not entirely arbitrary guided tour of places, times, stories in every corner of the house. Some of the paintings and sculpture are personal favourites, other strike me as so peculiar or piquant that they just had to be included. It is my hope, and that of the museum, that these sometimes lethal leaps, will encourage endless promenades - and hopefully lead you wonderfully astray in the collection"--Foreword.
