From Library Journal This extremely handy guide breaks Manhattan into three sections (Downtown, Midtown, and Uptown), which are then treated as walkable neighborhoods. Each neighborhood's museums, restaurants, hotels, shops, and other attractions are listed as one would find them if strolling down the street. It is a refreshing approach that puts the city on a more human level. There are three laminated, fold-out, pop-up maps (one for each neighborhood) attached to the back cover. The text and maps can be read simultaneously. Portability is clearly this guide's major asset and brevity of entries its major drawback. What little information appears is written in an entertainingly irreverent style, and the maps are ingeniously designed. Highly recommended for visitors to New York, especially those who like to explore casually on foot, but they may prefer to buy it for themselves. The series also includes brand-new titles on Canada, London, and Disney World.- Mary C. Kalfatovic, Telesec Lib. Svcs., Washington, Copyright 1994 Reed Business Information, Inc.
