Many people come to Spain for its climate and landscape, which is to say that they come for a part of the climate and a part of the landscape, for Spain is nothing is not a land of variety. Sheltered by the inland mountains, eastern Spain receives little rain from the prevailing westerlies and is occasionally swept by hot, dry winds from the Sahara. Edging the seaward side of eastern Spain, from Barcelona to Algeciras, are a succession of wide bays and sandy beaches, and it is this combination of sand, sun and heat which attracts so many visitors.
