The thirty-eight papers contained in this volume focus on the role of concurrent engineering in developing new materials and processes, developing a suitable framework for implementing concurrent engineering in materials processing, and identifying concurrent engineering-related problems and challenges to be confronted. Areas discussed include modeling various manufacturing processes, intelligent processing, using knowledge-based systems for materials processing, and the need to develop new technologies to enhance the current status of modeling.
