An artist who, with the exception of a few early paintings, devoted himself exclusively to drawing is a already a rarity in itself. Luc Claus (Aalst 1930 - Brussels 2006) did not live in solitary retreat. He loved company, preferably limited in number and intelligent, entertaining and sophisticated. Banality was wasted on him. But in his work he preferred to be alone. The choice of the medium perfectly matches the demands of the artist. To draw does not require anybody else. You can do it at any time and in any place. The first monograph on the work of Luc Claus offers a beautiful survey of his complete oeuvre, situated in the Zeitgeist and the artistic developments of postwar art in Belgium.
