TIME 2009 was the ninth and last edition of the Time Festival, but above all a statement made by the curators / artists and Dirk Braeckman Els Dietvorst. TIME 2009 is a book and not a festival. A place to think, not an event. TIME IS A BOOK will provide a temporary vacuum. A vacuum emanating from the 'state' which the book descrbies, takes time; start reading and watching. This vacuum, the locus of the meandering mind, the place where objects are collected, are invented and tested. The place to find inspiration, but also where things and thoughts lie unfinished, experimental andpossibly brittle.TIME IS A BOOK is the turmoil that both curators share. Concern about the future of the arts but especially anxiety about the future of man and his world. This book begins with a fundamental curiosity: looking at how other artists approach this concern. More than 50 artists were invited to use their own medium to contribute their views on the thems of this book, to express in words them or image.TIME IS A BOOK is a surprising experimental space on paper, a sketchbook of ideas and dreams."Time is a book" wil een tijdelijk vacuüm bieden. Een vacuüm dat uitgaat van de 'conditie' van wie het boek ter hand neemt, tijd neemt en gaat lezenen kijken. Dit vacuüm, de locus van het meanderende denken, is de plaats waar verzameld, bedacht en uitgeprobeerd wordt. De plaats waar inspiratie te vinden is, maar eveneens waar dingen en gedachten nog onaf, experimenteel en broos mogen zijn. Belangrijke grondtoon van TIME IS A BOOK is de onrust die beide curatoren delen. Onrust over de toekomst van de kunsten maar ook vooral onrust over de toekomst van de mens en zijn wereld. In dit boek gaan beiden, vanuit een fundamentele nieuwsgierigheid, op zoek naar de wijze waarop andere kunstenaars met die onrust omgaan. Meer dan 50 kunstenaars, waarmee zij zich op een of andere wijze verwant voelen worden uitgenodigd om vanuit hun eigen kunstpraktijk een bijdrage te leveren en hun eigen kijk op de voorop
