The main theme of this special collection was the preparation and properties of high-strength/high-performance concrete, and covered a wide range of topics and scopes, such as preparation of high strength/high performance concrete, durability, raw materials, workbility, chemical admixture, new applications of concrete, property characterization, and the behavior of concrete structures. A total of 64 peer-reviewed papers was accpted for publication and these were grouped into: I. Preparation of Ultra High Performance Concrete; II. Workability of Concrete; III. Chemical Admixtures; IV. Mineral Admixtures and Raw Aggregate; V. Durability of Concrete; VI. Mechanical Properties and Others. The book therefore constitutes a veritable mini-handbook on the properties and behavior of concrete. A total of 64 peer-reviewed papers from an April 2008 conference describe the preparation and properties of high-strength/high-performance concrete, covering a wide range of topics, including durability, raw materials, workability, chemical admixture, new applications of concrete, property characterization, and the behavior of concrete structures. Areas of investigation include a vacuum-assisted pumping technique for steel tube-confined concrete, adaptability of slag-based geopolymer with superplasticizer, synthesis and properties of new poly-acrylic superplasticizer, performance of a slow-release carboxylic polymer and its application, and characteristics of zeolite plasticizer.
