Excerpt from Souvenirs de Jeunesse, 1828-1835: L'Amennais Et Son École, le Mouvement Catholique en France Et en Allemagne, Après la Révolution de 1830 Eloi Jourdain, connu sous le pseudonyme de Charles Sainte - Foi, naquit le 7 août 1805, à Beau fort dans l'anjou. Ses études se firent au petit séminaire de Beaupreau, puis au séminaire de Nantes. Il n'avait pas encore engagé son avenir, lors qu'il perdit sa mère qu'il aimait pour sa tendresse et sa bonté, qu'il admirait pour son intelligence et sa vertu. Il resta auprès de son père, et il l'aida dans ses travaux. Mais il donnait tous ses loisirs à l'étude, et souvent, il s'en allait chez des amis de Beaupréau, les frères Eugène et Léon Bore.
