The objective of this project is to ascertain the performance, operating costs, reliability and acceptability of a new design ofcondensing gas furnace. During the period under test these newmodel furnaces operated in reliable and acceptable manner. Thecondensing gas furnace is highly efficient and has a loweroperating cost than an equivalent electric furnace. The unitinstalled at the Scarborough site produced an indicated seasonalefficiency in the range of 90.03% to 95.60% with seasonal costsavings of $266, or 39%, when compared to an electric furnace. The appliances installed at the Markham site produced anindicated seasonal efficiency in the range of 88.70% to 95.80%with seasonal cost savings of $409, or 41%, when compared to anelectric furnace.
