After a general introduction to cogeneration, this study estimates the cost components of a hypothetical 100-megawatt gas-fired cogeneration facility for each of five regions (three in British Columbia and two in the state of Washington). The objective of this financial analysis is to demonstrate the relative competitiveness of siting cogeneration in Washington versus British Columbia from the perspective of a cogeneration project proponent. The financial analysis assumes that the facility's load factor is 92.5%, that the gas is sourced in northeastern British Columbia, and that all power is delivered to the Seattle region of Washington. The cost-benefit analysis calculates the incremental benefits and costs of a British Columbia cogeneration facility relative to the next-best alternative use of the province's gas resources.
