
Charlie Jingle was a well-regarded farmer and family man who got pushed to the edge of madness by the callous murder of his family by three men. Charlie knew these men along with their commander Colonel Johns. He met the conniving bunch during the Civil War while serving as a Union spy Charlie had caught them stealing a gold shipment.Spotted in the open Charlie flees for his life. His fate is sealed by a desperation shot that struck Colonel Johns in the hip wounding him grievously. This put an end to the pursuit at that time but not for the Colonel. He nursed his desire for revenge and waited for a chance at payback.Charlie returned home hoping to leave the war behind wishing to pick up the life he had once led with the help of his loving wife. But Colonel Johns had other plans. He had grown paranoid over the years and when the army reopened the investigation into the missing gold he knew that he would be the top suspect. Colonel Johns wanted this investigation to end so he sent his men to Butternut kill Charlie.In the end, they failed to located Charlie and the three men went berserk killing the Jingle family in a vain attempt to flush Charlie out but when that failed they were forced to flee not realizing how close they had come to completing their goal. Charlie had been critically wounded and lay dying only a few yards away covered in the brush.Charlie recovered from his wounds and driven by a desire for revenge that was fueled by his wife's dying touch and last words he traveled to Youngstown. It was there that he found his wife's killers and did to them what they had done to his loved ones. In his wife's words, it was retribution.
