"International Perspectives on the Belt and Road Initiative investigates the most significant global-scale international trade expansion and capital investment program since the Second World War. It takes a bottom-up approach to explore multinational experiences of China's Belt and Road Initiative, which formally commenced in 2013, to better understand the impacts of foreign infrastructure investment, strategic implementation and geo-political driven economic development. Thirteen strategically selected BRI-associated countries are discussed, including Iran, Pakistan, Brazil, Thailand, Indonesia, Japan and Ethiopia, amongst others. Each country is the centre of a separate chapter, framed around their economic development levels, political systems, power dynamics and socio-environmental concerns. The book identifies variations in local conditions to establish country-specific examples to provide more balanced stories of international interactions.
