Architectural heritage of Java IslamThis book explores the history and culture of Islam through four motifs (Tumple, Carla-macarra, Lotus, and scroll) among the many manners displayed in temples and mosques in Indonesia, an Islamic country with Hindu-Buddhist culture. By studying architecture, art, design, history, anthropology, and archeology, we can understand Javas Islam with its complexity of religion and culture. I hope this book will serve as a stepping stone to understand the Hindu-Buddhist symbolism that has developed into a unique culture that blends with the local characteristics of Indonesias Java and Islamic aesthetics.
