The Technology Schools Initiative (TSI) was introduced in 1991 by the Secretary of State to promote good technology teaching and vocational developments at Key Stage 4. This report evaluates the early effects of TSI and is based on inspections of 122 schools in receipt of TSI awards. It reveals that the standard of technology work in the TSI schools is better than the national average, with a higher proportion of good lessons. The range and depth of technology and vocational work are benefiting from improved accommodation and resources, and in many of the TSI schools, the teaching of technology is considerably strengthened by industry-related practical work.
