This study explores specific experiences with parking policies that support transit (such as parking supply policies and parking pricing policies), and develops model policies that could be used in municipalities. The study is based on interviews with officials in cities where significant efforts have been made to reduce automobile commuting and encourage transit use through parking supply & pricing policies. The focus of the interviews was to update policies & measures which have been tried and to assess their effectiveness in influencing commuters' transportation mode choice. The results of the interviews are summarized, with some of the more notable experiences presented as case studies. Finally, six parking supply-related policies and four pricing-related policies are proposed which should have good potential for application in Canadian municipalities. Issues related to implementation are also discussed. The appendix contains excerpts from the downtown parking & circulation policy of Portland, Oregon.
