The artist Isa Genzken (born 1948) will represent Germany at the Venice Biennale in 2007. For more than 30 years she has been creating a richly varied uvre. Her extensive body of work - consisting of sculpture and installation art, photography, collage and film - has continuously evolved and revealed new approaches. Genzken's work for the Biennale in 2007 will be site- and context-specific. Nicolaus Schafhausen, the curator of the German Pavilion, explains his "For Isa Genzken, life and existence are just as complex as art itself. Her creative work stands in contrast to a society that prefers instant gratification and searches for happiness in simple answers. This is perhaps the reason why she is so important and influential to many international artists of subsequent generations." This book offers compelling insights into the work of Isa Genzken, one of the most significant artists working today. It includes a rare and exclusive interview with the artist. This is the official publication of the German Pavilion at the 52nd Venice Biennale in 2007.
