Among the Newars, who have supported Nepalese Buddhism in the Kathmandu a quite few painters literate in Sanskrit who draw images of Buddhist deities acco Newari tradition. The line drawings reprinted here are by one such contemporary Gautam Ratna Vajracarya (Bajracharya) (1960-), whose father was the famous Buddhist Ratnakaji Bajracharya. His grandfather was also a Buddhist priest, well-versed esp of iconography. Gautam was thus brought up in an environment in which he could tradition of Newari Buddhist iconography.
