
Catalogue for exhibition of the same name held at the Pinacoteca of São Paulo from 25 June to 26 September of 2016. The Helga de Alvear Collection, made up of contemporary art, is based in Cáceres, Spain. As of June 25, 137 works can be seen at the Pinacoteca of São Paul. The great majority of the works were previously unseen in Brazil and some artists presented for the first time in Brazil. Paintings, sculptures, videos, installations, drawings and engravings date from the 1930s to today, with emphasis on production from the mid-1960s to the present day. The pieces represent the work of almost 70 artists, including influential names of modern art, such as Wassily Kandinsky, Marcel Duchamp and Josef Albers; artists related to some of the main aspects of the postwar United States, such as Donald Judd, Dan Flavin, Bruce Nauman and Gordon Matta-Clark; important authors of contemporary production, such as Gerhard Richter, Cindy Sherman, Franz West, Jeff Wall, and Thomas Ruff; and others who have begun their career in the last 30 years, such as Francis Alÿs, Pierre Huyghe, Mark Leckey, Martin Creed, Marcel Dzama and Chen Wei. Brazilians Jac Leirner, Iran of Espírito Santo and José Damasceno also participate in the exhibition.
