In Search of Our Roots is a story about Schoenfeld, an agricultural community that once thrived 250 km north of the Black Sea. This book identifies the founding families, where many of them actually lived and how they brought dynamic grain production to the region. Many descendents of these founding families now reside in Leamington, Ontario. While the central theme traces the ancestral families of John A. and Agatha (Driedger) Dick, many familiar names appear throughout the story. The book explains the early Anabaptist movement, the Mennonite migration to Prussia, the subsequent invitation by Tsarist Catherine of Russia to populate and develop the Ukrainian steppe, and how the Russian revolution of 1917-19 destroyed it all. A reader will find little known political and economic facts that provide insight into why Schoenfeld disappeared.
