A sentence head consists of a bundle of inflectional features. The nature and content of sentence head vary cross-linguistically. The sentence head of the Chinese-type languages is fundamentally different from its counterpart in the English-type languages. This book proposes that this crucial cross-linguistic difference follows from the setting of a single two-valued parameter, the I-parameter.
