It was not our intention, when we began work on A New Resonance a few years ago, to create a serial volume. We thought that a book heralding the emergence of a new generation of poets whose primary form was haiku would be a service to the haiku community, but didn’t think it would be necessary to repeat it. But even before we went to press with the first edition, we already knew that we had only tapped the surface, that there were poets who had come to our attention in the few months while we were working on the volume that we would want to present as well. And so it became apparent that a second volume would be needed, and, undoubtedly, more. This was wonderful news to us, since this is pleasurable work, and coming to know first-hand the extended bodies of work which these poets are assembling, as well as the poets themselves, must be the best job in the world. So we are most pleased to present to you 17 more poets whose work perhaps you’ve already seen, but which you are certain to see again and again in the coming days. As in the first volume, they are various and multi-national, and one of the challenges for the editors, and enjoyments for the reader, is the melding of all these voices and styles into a harmonious edition.
