Daybreak: cusp tanka 2022, is a collection tanka culled from a daily diary of poems by Joy McCall. * "A wonderful new collection to explore, savor and find the soul of tanka time via Joy!" From Tom Clausen * I came home, made a cup of blackberry tea with honey and coconut cream, and re-read Daybreak, cusp tanka 2022—from back to front this time. These were as many favorites as I had fingers to mark while reading: those Easter Island gods are tipping and falling and breaking just like so many gods that are set in sand * the hymn says ‘count your blessings on by one’ to be whole, we need to count our sorrows too * the water flies when the birds bathe and lo and behold out of the brick weave... violets * as my gaunt teacher wrote, threatening with the ruler ‘Joy must try harder and stop day-dreaming’ * sometimes I take down a book from years past and read—and find myself hiding in the pages * I related to all of these on such a personal level—the realizations, the wonder, the knowing, the feeling less-than, the self-discovery all resonated with me. You and your tanka are such good company—thank you for continuing to daydream. Autumn N. Hall
