Active Chinese seeks to teach Mandarin Chinese to advanced learners through real world conversations. Throughout the book the dialogues and short lessons featured cover a great deal of topics including working in China, intercultural friendships, travel, many cultural aspects of China and its people and historic topics about the United States. All of these topics are explored through the life of a young Chinese man who works for a news agency in Beijing. This format is helpful for language learners because it provides a more engaging resource than some other traditional textbooks. Real world examples assist by introducing the learner to how people talk to each other in Chinese.
