"The essence of development is change. To observe a newborn develop into a toddler, child, and adolescent, and to try to account for the mechanisms of the developing brain and cognition that underlie these changes, are intellectually stimulating as well as emotionally satisfying. The field of cognitive development helps us understand how we learn to think, perceive, reason, talk, learn, and remember. This book conveys the insights gained from recent empirical research in the field of cognitive development and presents a cumulative account of different aspects of the developing brain and cognition. The highlight of the volume is the bringing together of various topics in cognitive development, methodology, developmental stages, and most important, research findings on various populations from both East and West. This volume is a collection of chapters based on the proceedings of the International Conference on Cognitive Development held in December 2010 at the Centre of Behavioural and Cognitive Sciences, University of Allahabad, Allahabad, India.
