Ong, Gaunt, Mao, Cheng, Esteve-Agelet and Hurburgh (Iowa State U.) were commissioned by the Awwa Research Foundation to prepare these reports on the suitability of PVC pipes for the transport of drinking water, and if these materials can resist various types of soil contamination. This research project examined the effects of hydrocarbons on PVC through controlled laboratory experiments as well as existing data from water treatment facilities around the world. The findings from this study should be considered essential to all water treatment engineers and water utility managers.
