This report presents a literature review on financial abuse of older people. It examines definitional issues, incidence and prevalence in Australia and overseas, impacts on victims, and the characteristics of victims and abusers and other risk factors, as well as agencies engaged in prevention work in Australia and policy and legislative responses to elder abuse. The report also assesses specific prevention and intervention strategies, including education campaigns, helplines, and legal arrangements. This is the first report of the Protecting Elders Assets Study (PEAS): Ethical Management of Older Persons' Financial Assets (2009-2011).
