Throughout history women have played important roles in wartime. Few know, however, that thousands of women were a significant part of battleground clashes. Most of these women managed to join their military units by posing as men. Many died in battles but many also survived to rejoin society as women. This book is a compilation of stories of dozens of such women and a worldwide historical perspective of women's roles in wartime.
