This text is a collaborative project undertaken by the International Community Foundation; UCLA; California State U., San Marcos; and El Colegio de la Frontera Norte, Tijuana, Mexico. The 18-month research initiative focused on San Diego County's Mexican immigrant community, particularly on their unmet needs. Coverage includes origins and characteristics of Mexican immigrants in San Diego; immigrant living conditions and related impacts on health; the need for more trained staff in culturally and linguistically appropriate services; and specific analyses of the population of individuals crossing the Tijuana-San Diego border to work and to access services. The study offers civic leaders and elected officials throughout the U.S. a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by Mexican immigrants in their communities. No subject index.
