This is a unique collection of stories drawing on an immensely rich variety of material. Cyborgs and goddesses vie for the future and morph into ordinary men and women, influenced by gender and power. Some of these stories are deeply moving, some humorous, one darkly Gothic, several purely romantic. All are concerned with psychological truth, and more with spirit than flesh or metal. The author has included a memoir of her childhood and two stories about her mother, who spent her early years in an orphanage. She illustrates some of the book with her own paintings and drawings. The 'Night's Plutonian Shore' is a quotation from The Raven by Edgar Allen Poe and is a fitting allusion.
