This is a collection of short personal memoirs by a handful of men in their 70s through mid-90s. The foursome came together online as a writing group with a facilitator. All had experience writing, but none of them as a full-time occupation. The stories took shape, and they encouraged, prodded, and questioned each other to dig deeper. As time went on, they recognized they had created a unique collection of up-close narratives encompassing a broad range of subjects. So here they are, four different voices, each writer contributing his own 10 favorites, for a total of 40 rich tales. The stories start from early boyhood, chronicle ordinary life, mark rites of passage, and evolve into manhood. The tales are of family life, forming early and enduring friendships, falling in love, coming of age in the 1950s and 1960s as baby boomers, and experiencing an era rich with folk music, rock and roll, and even mayhem. The stories are set in times of social change and upheaval, including shocking assassinations, the Vietnam War, and 911.Each of the men experienced a willingness to take risks and be vulnerable, sharing difficult as well as fond memories, often with a healthy dose of humor beaming through. This is an amazing assortment of stories, told through the lens of where these men are now, in the last quarter of their lives, as they anticipate the remaining days of sunlight.
