In Organic Device Physics, Iwamoto and Lim propose a new model to explain carrier transport in organic semiconductors. Previous models for transport in semiconductors are optimized for materials with small bandgaps (~1 eV) and thus work well for inorganic semiconductors, but fail when applied to organic semiconductors, which often have bandgaps above 2 eV. The new model is based on the physics of dielectrics, and since it takes into account the particularities of organic semiconductors and organic devices, the model can describe transport in these systems more accurately. The authors begin by explaining physical phenomena in organic devices, particularly OFETs, revealing principles that can be applied to other organic devices such as organic light emitting devices and organic photovoltaic cells.
