Belinda's doll had broken her head the day before, so very early in the morning, Belinda wrapped Maria-Carmen in a blanket, woke her little sister Lucy, and went down the lane to find Señor el Medico to mend Maria-Carmen. Theirs is a small island, but the doctor was treating many patients and they couldn't catch up with him. Everywhere they went, the sisters made new friends and were helped by neighbors. When the doctor finally found them and returned them to their Mummy, the tired little girls had gifts, new friends, and a mended Maria-Carmen.
