Recent appreciation for the pervasiveness of unsaturated soils in engineering practice has led to increased interest in unsaturated soil mechanics. Unsaturated soil behavior is important to a broad array of engineering issues, from foundation design and performance to expansive, compacted, and collapsible soils. This compilation of peer-reviewed papers features current practices and research in the analysis and design of geotechnical engineering and geo-environmental works in unsaturated soils. Papers and case histories highlight the history and current trends in unsaturated soil mechanics, methods of predicting volume change of compacted and naturally occurring soils, shrink/swell behavior, and the performance of moisture barriers.
