
This is a study of the organization and mobilization of rural workers in Kerala. The author's starting point is Keralese society in the mid-nineteenth century, and he goes on to discuss rural dynamics in the twentieth century by way of detailed accounts of the economic conditions and political organization of three groups of rural workers - toddy tappers, beedi workers, and agricultural labourers.
