Fuzzy Village is a sequential series of panels, like bits of life from a grown-up Dick and Jane, depicting a town and its allied locales, where the mildly surreal is rather normal. The fuzziness of the title is cover for small inconsistencies of time, space, and speed. “Fuzzy Village: 5 Two Weeks in Europe” features a two week European bus tour, the first date of two previously heartbroken and socially reluctant people. Deau and Jho, ages 37 and nearly 50, have finally acknowledged their love for each other. Soon they discover that Jho’s adult daughter and her boyfriend will join them on their romantic getaway. But a crazy tour guide turns the trip, represented with bold and colorful graphics, into a family survival saga. The confusion and uncertainty of the trip mimic a real vacation in unfamiliar places, where it seems like a new issue pops up every hour. The author started this work during the COVID pandemic, nostalgically but destructively re-imagining her own budget European tours 50 years prior. The work was finished after her breathless two-week trip to London and Paris in autumn 2024.
