Following on the heels of his award-winning plays A Murder of Crows and The Hyacinth Macaw (see below), Wellman's two new plays were performed in 1997 at Primary Stages in New York and Bottom's Dream in Los Angeles. As in the two other plays of the "crowtet", these new plays explore the vagaries of contemporary culture, likening the adult world to a terrifying "crow" world, where unanswerable questions are posed and seemingly meaningless tirades of language confuse and obfuscate adult frustration, nostalgia, and loss. The young alone shine in Wellman's plays as dreamers who have few answers and know little of life's complexities, but are impelled, nonetheless, by ideals.
