Although Dr Hannah Day was making a great success of the little hospital she was running in the Canary Isles, there was no doubt that she now needed an assistant to take on some of the workload. But it was a pity that the assistant should turn out to be Ramon Riviero, who with typical Spanish male chauvinism made it clear that he resented having to work for a woman! But all that didn't prevent Hannah falling in love with Ramon. Where would that get her, though? For she knew very well that men like Ramon only married women who were like himself, Spanish and aristocratic, like Juana Lorenzo.
