The exhibition The Marquise, the MAM and us in the middleʺ was inspired by the metaphor of the museum's connection with its surroundings. Housed since 1969 in a pavilion under Oscar Niemeyer's idealized sunroom for Ibirapuera Park, the museum is part of one of the city's most vigorous and spontaneous spaces for cultural, sporting and political events. In addition to the MAM collection, neighborhood relations, territories, and agents living in and around MAM are an integral part of the museum's collection. According to curator Ana Maria Maia This environment was the starting point for my reflection on what MAM is today - identity, collection and history, as the museum turns 70. There will be six special editions linked to the exhibition. Each will address aspects of the neighborhood between MAM and the sunroom, where different manifestations of art, culture, sport and sociability constitute a daily relationship of conviviality. There are 38 participating artists and groups, including installations, performances, music and dance performances, photography, painting and sculpture. The works of the collection remain inside the exhibition hall, while objects such as skate ramps are used in both the exhibition's exhibition architecture and outside for use by skaters attending the free space. According to Ana Maria Maia, the objective is for the exhibition space to be experienced during the time of the exhibition as a backwater, stage and track, in its interfaces with the surroundingsʺ.
