First international exhibition focusing on feather mosaics, a technique originated by Pre-Columbian artists and still practiced today in Mexico. More than 170 Pre-Hispanic and Colonial feather art pieces spanning from the court of Moctezuma through 19th-century Europe are featured in the present exhibition. Based on the five key sections in which the exhibition was layout, the texts offer an account of the development and transcendence in Europe of the Pre-Hispanic technique through iconographic readings in which Western myths, such as the Daedalus and Icarus, as well as biblical passages are present along their Pre-Hispanic correlates: Quetzalcóatl, Huitzilopochtli, and Coyotl Inahual, the patron god of feather artists in Aztec mythology.
