Retratos y vegetación, the title of the exhibition presented at the CAC Màlaga, offers a survey of Tuymans work through around twenty paintings of different formats, primarily of small and medium size. The almost complete absence of colour (Soldier, 1999), their sombre mood (Secrets, 1990), the watery, diffused brushstrokes (Evidence, 2005) and their ambigious approach to representation all exemplify Tuymans most characteristic style. The works seem to be wrapped in deceptive, evocative and disturbing silence, leaving the viewer to construct his or her own reading. Essays by Montserrat Albores and Fernand Francés.
