A trip to Africa inspires a Scientist to Help AIDS Orphans in ZimbabweGeorge Artz is a medical laboratory scientist in Queensland. His interest in helping those less fortunate than himself began as a child. In November, 2011 he went on a very special trip to the Mazivisa Community in Zimbabwe with a group of Ambassadors for the Africa Alive Foundation. The trip's focus centered around helping children who have been orphaned by HIV. They spent two days in Johannesburg visiting Nelson Mandela's house and buying school supplies then proceeded to Zimbabwe to distribute blankets to three orphanages, and then assist in a new literacy program at Mazivisa Primary School, in Shurugwi. Zimbabwe's literacy rate is reduced to only 20%; formerly it was the highest in Africa. The group sank a borehole and now that the school has running water; they painted a new toilet block; helped catalogue reading books collected for the library."I travelled to Zimbabwe because I love the idea of making a difference in some way, to help those in need. I was at a seminar a few years ago and one of the speakers asked us 'If money was no object, and you already had all the toys and comforts money could buy, How would you spend your day? What would you do with your life?' I pondered this for a long time and what rose to the surface was a need to make a difference. and this crystallized into helping to build educational and medical facilities in Africa."Upon his return to Australia, George Artz wrote this book and is now an Ambassador for the Africa Alive Education Foundation. This is HIS-STORY.
