This book has been write especially for chemistry student, pharmacy students, teachers of medicinal chemistry with a handy and reliable source for the information about the various sulfa drugs which have been opted from the various syllabus. A sincere attempt has been made to describe the drugs in a clear and lucid style with their synthesis and uses. IUPAC system of nomenclature has been used to name the drugs. Structures have been fully illustrated. This book comprises of 5 chapters. Chapter-1 gives an introduction of sulfa drugs. Chapter-2 follows classification and synthesis based on either chemical or pharmacological basis. Each category of compound also includes the important representative members of respective group together with their foreign names, generic names, brand names wherever applicable. The mechanism of action of sulfa drugs, how it works, its adverse effects are explained in Chapter-3. Chapter -4 follows sulfa drugs as a therapeutic agents. The 5th chapter perhaps the therapeutic applications of sulfa derivative together with its dosage in various disease and routes of administrations. The dosage for adults and children have been mentioned. Greater emphasis has been laid on the chemistry of various sulfa compounds treated in this book, so that an undergraduate students may acquire a comprehensive knowledge on the basic concepts of the medicinal chemistry. It is hoped that both students and teachers of pharmacy, science and scientists will receive the book favourably as an effective textbook.
