Apart from the small memorial exhibition held at the Abbot Hall Art Gallery, Kendal in 1981, there has never been a retrospective or major showing of the work of Sheila Fell (1931-1979). Drawing upon her deep involvement with Cumbria and in particular the environs of the small mining town, Aspatria, where she grew up, she became one of the most outstanding landscape artists of her generation, blending native and European influences into a vision that ranges from the dark and fiercely oppressive to the tender and elegiac. This exhibition includes paintings from all phases of Sheila Fell's career.
