As highest federal authority, it helped to solve a central socio-political task that the Federal Republic of Germany was confronted with - the integration of millions of refugees and expellees. The ministry was involved in a number of networks. In terms of personnel and organization, they stretched back beyond the Nazi era to the 1920s. Five case studies examine the ministry's interactions with parliament, political parties, churches and organizations representing the interests of refugees and displaced persons. This makes it possible to reveal new aspects of the work and activities of this special ministry in a classic guise.
