This book is an in-depth study on the changing nature of poverty of the landless rural proletariat in the agriculturally and industrially developed region of south Gujarat. On the basis of his fieldwork, the author argues against the viewpoint that economic reforms from the 1990s onwards have substantially decreased poverty.
