Xu Bing creates contemporary artworks using Chinese calligraphy and other traditional Chinese media placed within unexpected settings. Erickson, a specialist on contemporary Chinese art, elucidates clearly Bing's iconoclastic and irreverent work, relating it to themes Bing has used elsewhere in his career.
