
It’s 1959 and Batista, ousted President of Cuba, is boarding a plane to the Dominican Republic, in fear of his life. Fidel Castro is making his triumphant march through the streets of Habana to become its eventual dictator. Fast forward to 1979 Barranquilla Colombia, to the dark and dangerous docks and the Hotel Diamante; a place routined by whores, mobsters and yes, a DEA agent and now a young man from Cuba. By the time the story begins, the Cuban Government has created a series of political policies that forces many to choose the risk of death, in order to escape to the USA. Reynaldo, our main character, a young fifteen year old boy handicapped by polio as a baby, has to overcome the emotional trauma of being left behind by his family. From that moment he began a scheme to escape, but in order to be successful he had to navigate a suspicious and treacherous political system, knowing that the Cuban government had informants everywhere. Along with his sister, Rosa, as the Femme-fatale. Daring, courageous, inventive and persuasive she would risk everything, leading and helping her brother through a 30 day maze of intrigue and deception on their way to freedom. Running from country to country the search for freedom will tax their will and ingenuity. The new Castro communists regime has been a perfect breeding ground turning, the once content Cuban society, into a web of black market entrepreneurs and racketeers, for the sole purpose of surviving. Now, decades after, the revolution that was to bring peace and prosperity to all, has turned into a dark overbearing government running out of resources. With each passing day, there is more national debt, more subjugation and less hope for the people to hold on to. It’s time for Reynaldo, to put his plan into action. It had to be executed flawlessly and with courage or it would cost him his life, paredon; the firing squad wall, where thousands had already lost their lives. Time to
