Light alloys are used in a multitude of different applications but their advantages are often offset by particular problems. Focusing on titanium, magnesium, and aluminum alloys, this work presents the various surface engineering techniques employed to improve the properties of light alloys. It reviews surface-related degradation of light alloys, before looking at the available surface engineering technologies in some detail. The text also includes a section on applications and case studies.
