CORBA, Common Object Request Broker Architecture, is a critical component of many networks. It is a specification in which pieces of a software program (objects) communicate with other objects in other programs, even if the two programs are written in different programming languages and are running on different platforms. A program makes its request for objects through an object request broker, or ORB, and thus does not need to know the structure of the program where the object comes from CORBA is designed to work in object-oriented environments, and has become increasingly important for networks. CORBA 3.0 Network Design from George Doss focuses on the recent CORBA 3.0 enhancements, but CORBA 2.0 features and functions are discussed as appropriate to give direction to a foundation to a CORBA 3.0 network design process. This book is a high-level technical overview for system administrators and lead programmers to comprehend the importance of a CORBA network design process and the implicationof the new suite of specifications on using CORBA. However, this is not a programming book. The ideas presented in CORBA 3.0 Network Design area continuation of the author's other books on CORBA including CORBA Developer's Guide with XML (1-55622-668-3) and Demystifying CORBA 3.0 (1-55622-761-2).
