Reflections on Robens is the first of two books in a series. It gives the background to the second book (which is the main one in the series), Celebrating 50 years of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, also published by Amazon. In 1972, The Robens Committee published a report which led to the passing in 1974 of the Health and Safety at Work Act in Great Britain, plus the creation of the Health and Safety Commission and Executive. Reflections... looks at how the Robens Committee worked, what happened to its recommendations and what the benefits have been for levels of work-related injury and ill-health. Celebrating 50 years... tells a story of the 50 years since 1974, exploring why the Act conceived by Robens has endured for so long, when many Government initiatives seem to have come and gone without remotely the same impact. It has chapters on leadership, major hazards, health, construction, risks to the public and others, and on political events of the period, at home and abroad. It is a memoir, rather than a textbook about health and safety, written by four people who worked in HSE for much of the period and so were 'in the room' as events took place.
